5 Secret Carpet-Cleaning Tips from the Pros
Despite the wide variety of residential flooring products now available – laminate, bamboo, tile, vinyl, wood, stone, and cork – carpet cleaning in Langley remains extremely popular.
One reason people love
carpeting is that it requires less maintenance and care than hard-surface
floors. Regular vacuuming and an occasional deep-clean scrubbing are typically
all that’s needed to keep the carpet looking fresh and new.
Let’s walk through some expert
tips we have gathered with our years of experience.
1.
Don’t Rub Stains
Don’t immediately start
scrubbing when a stain or spill first occurs. It will only spread it and get
wider. Instead, gently dab the stain with a cleaning cloth, paper towel, or
sponge.
NOTE: Always clean the stain
from the outer edge towards the center. Otherwise, it can spread the stain
further across the carpet.
2.
Use Club Soda and Vinegar
You might have heard about
using club soda to remove beer and wine stains from the carpet, which is true
if you use it correctly. First, pour club soda on a clean cloth and see if the
stain gets lighter. If yes, keep repeating the step.
In case that doesn’t work, mix
a one-to-one ratio of white vinegar and water, and pour it into a handheld
spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the stain and wait for at least 10 to 15
minutes for it to soak in.
Then, use a dry sponge to soak
up the cleaning solution and dilute the stain.
3.
Try Shaving Cream
Sometimes shaving cream proves
to be the best carpet cleaner. It can remove almost all types of stains. Apply
the shaving cream directly on the stain and sit back for about 30 minutes.
Once the cream has set, wipe
it out with a clean white cloth. Finish by spraying the area with a 50/50 mix
of white vinegar and water, and then wipe away the solution with a cloth.
4.
Removing Chewing Gum
It is common that you take
chewing gum home with your shoes, but don’t realize it unless you feel sticky
on the carpet. The solution to remove chewing gum from the carpet can be found
in your freezer.
Grab a few ice cubes and press
them against the gum for 30 to 45 seconds. Once the gum is frozen, you can
remove it easily. If the gum still stays, use a sharp knife or scissors to cut
the carpet as close as possible to the gum. A small spot will be undetectable.
5.
Heat Hardened Wax
Burning candles in the house
can result in wax dripping onto the carpet. It quickly gets hard and embedded
in the fibers. Our carpet cleaning experts recommend heating the wax
back to a semi-liquid state to remove it.
Place a white cloth over a
warm clothes iron and use the “no steam” settings. Then set the iron on top of
the wax until it melts.
